Largest Apple Shipment Leaves Rappahannock

The 15 truck-loads left for Washington, Cherokee Annex, to be shipped overseas for the Navy's use from 1907 to 1910 loaded boxes were on each truck. They are a north-eastern style to feel home and each apple was individually wrapped and the boxes were wrapped. Packing was according the northwestern coast, from 10 to 100 per box.

The Castleton county, the apples were all grown in Rappahannock county from four different growers: Benny Hope Farm Orchard, E. B. Hunt Orchard, and Foster Brothers, of First Hill, and J. W. Kuyper, from the farm in Harris Ridges.

All of the trucks used were Rappahannock owned and operated, except one trailer truck, which came from Orange Among the truck owners and operators were Gilbert Dennis of Amherst, Green Sackett of Sturdy, A. J. Dabies and Carson Johnson of Sperryville, Lester, B. & A. of Washington, G. W. Smith, S. H. Duckinger, Eleanor Foster, Benjamin, and John and Floyd Brock, to the from First Hill.

"The lands of trucks called out between 9 o'clock and midnight at 4 o'clock noon, a portion was made about 5 o'clock in the afternoon and the picture on page 2 shows part of the consignment ready to go.
